Children who rely on free breakfast and lunch at school are often food insecure on weekends.
Our Impact
Backpack Buddies started in 2017 with volunteers packing food for children facing weekend hunger. They began by serving 10 students at one local elementary school, providing discreet bags of non-perishable food.
Since then, Backpack Buddies has expanded across Metro Atlanta, feeding hundreds of students each weekend. After becoming a *501(c)(3) in 2022, the organization grew to serve 800 children weekly at 27 schools. By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, with help from volunteers and community partners, Backpack Buddies was feeding 2,500 children each weekend at 50 schools. In April 2025, they celebrated delivering their 1 Millionth Meal.
As we grow, we need more donors, volunteers, and partners to continue our mission.

Hunger is a ripple that can grow into an issue that afects all
areas of child's life: their health, their social development, and
their cognitive capabilities. No child deserves this.​
