Partner Schools

Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta partners with local schools to provide weekend meal bags to students experiencing food insecurity. Our mission is simple: ensure that children across Metro Atlanta have reliable access to nutritious food every weekend so they can return to school on Monday ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

How the Program Works

Our model is powered through community partnerships. Each school is paired with one of our Community Buddies, local civic or religious organizations that:

  • Pick up food from BPBMA

  • Pack weekend meal bags

  • Deliver the bags to their assigned school each week

This system allows us to maintain consistent, efficient service throughout the school year.

What Schools Are Responsible For

If your school is selected for partnership, you will work directly with your designated Community Buddy to coordinate:

Parent Release Forms

Your Community Buddy provides the release form text.
You place it on school letterhead and distribute it to families.
Children remain completely anonymous to BPBMA and the Community Buddy

Weekly Delivery Coordination

You will set a weekly delivery day and time with your Community Buddy.
Some schools may need additional staff or volunteers to receive bags.

Storage

Schools must provide a secure location to store weekend meal bags.

Distribution to Students

Most schools distribute bags on Fridays through the counseling office or a discreet pickup system, allowing students to place the food directly into their backpacks.

Periodic Data Submission

Each semester, the school provides aggregate demographic information about enrolled students. This data is essential for sustaining and improving the program.

Communication

Schools must notify their Community Buddy when closures, holidays, or schedule changes affect service.

Currently Accepting Waitlist Submissions

We are grateful for the overwhelming support from the community.
At this time, BPBMA is operating at full capacity and cannot onboard additional partner schools immediately.

However, schools may submit a request to join our waitlist, and we will reach out as soon as a partnership opportunity becomes available.
